An introduction to Master’s degree program

The AIHE master’s degree program currently focuses on the discipline of International Relations and in this field, it is known as the scientific hub in the country. In addition to this field, efforts are underway to obtain permission in the discipline of International law and Foreign Policy Analysis. With its professionalism approach to science, having the slogan “Transformation of Knowledge, Transformation of Afghanistan” and its concern to raise the level of knowledge in Afghanistan, the AIHE seeks to introduce other master’s programs according to the priority and needs of the country.

Master of International Relations

The AIHE master’s program in International Relations was introduced according to the masters’ program educational bill of the Ministry of Higher Education in 2014 and it has core and optional courses. Since then, there are several batches graduated from the program.

The purpose of the Master’s program in International Relations is to improve the quality and efficiency of students, to acquaint them with the work of researching and to train the efficient people for ministries especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Graduates of this discipline with the knowledge and scientific skills that they will acquire will be able to teach, research on and analyze international relations and international issues.

According to masters’ program educational bill of the Ministry of Higher Education, the maximum time that a student can take to complete the program (with dissertation) is 3 years.

The master’s degree program in International Relations generally consists of 37 credits, of which 31 credits are core and optional courses and 6 credits are dissertations. In setting up core courses, it is tried to offer students the opportunity to get specialized in a specific field and at the same time allow them to obtain sufficient information in other areas as well. In order to achieve this goal, out of 31 total credits of core courses, 19 are compulsory, 12 are optional credits 6 credits defined for dissertation.

The master’s students are required to write a dissertation in their last semester and this dissertation has 6 credits. In addition, the student will be required to extract a research article from their dissertation and submit along with it. Writing a term paper for each course during continuing semester is a normal academic activities.

Students who have completed undergraduates in a discipline other than political science or international relations must take the prerequisite courses set by the department before choosing the core courses.
